Fall festival in Chestnut Hill, spooky tales in Germantown and Halloween fun near East Falls

Here’s a look at some Northwest Philly-based events to check out this weekend:

 

Chestnut Hill Fall for the Arts Festival – Sunday, Oct. 14, 11a.m.-5 p.m.

Rescheduled from Oct. 7, the annual event features artisans, live music, games and lots of food. Over 165 artists and craftsmen specializing in oils and watercolors, sculpture, photography, drawings, jewelry and fine crafts will be selling their wares. Live music entertainment includes Zydeco a Go Go, Dukes of Destiny and The Rich Posmentier Orchestra. Dance performances, costumed characters, and artist demonstrations are also on tap.

Kids can take a trip on the free Peanut Express Train Ride and enjoy face painting, glitter tattoos, a rock climbing wall and a large amusement area with inflatable rides.

Historic Germantown Ghost of the Great Road Tour – Saturday, Oct. 13, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Hear the haunted tales of Germantown on Historic Germantown’s Ghosts of the Great Road Tour. Visitors can choose from the Market Square Tour at 3 p.m. or the Colonial Compound Tour at 6 p.m. The Market Square tour starts at 5501 Germantown Ave. The Colonial Compound leaves from 6430 Germantown Ave. Each 90-minute tour takes participants to sits along Germantown Avenue and end with an ends with an investigation inside a real haunted house.Tickets are $10. Grumblethorpe is hosting a Halloween Party on Saturday between 5:00 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tour the colonial home of the Wister family, listen to spooky tales and enjoy children’s activities. The cost is $5 for adults, $3 for students, and $12 for a family of four. Grumblethorpe is located at 5267 Germantown Ave. For information, call 215.880.8620.

Family Fun Day at Laurel Hill, Sunday Oct. 14, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.

Enjoy an autumn afternoon exploring the wonders and mysteries of Laurel Hill Cemetery. Activities include pumpkin painting, apple bobbing, scavenger hunts, arts and crafts, and Halloween games. Feast on an assortment of hot dogs, cookies, popcorn, hot apple cider and other spooky treats. Children are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes. The event is recommended for families with children ages 4-12. Activities will commence promptly at 1 p.m and will conclude at 3 pm. Arrive on time.
