Gallery: Annual boat blessing, Memorial Day commemoration this weekend

If you’re cruising the Barnegat Bay off Bayville this Sunday, you’ll see a very patriotic scene.

The Berkeley Shores Homeowners’ Civic Association will hosts it annual Boat Parade, Blessing of the Fleet, and Memorial Day Commemoration.

The parade begins at noon, when the flotilla heads out of the Amherst Inlet into the Barnegat Bay. As the vessels enter open water, a clergy member will bless the cavalcade, followed by a ceremony to commemorate fallen veterans at Intercoastal Waterway Buoy #39.

The ceremony will feature the Central Regional JROTC Color Guard, the playing of Taps, speeches by local dignitaries, and a wreath laid upon the waters in honor of service members. Participants are encouraged to lay a rose or carnation upon the water.
