Fumo Firepower for Sale

You might recall that in headier days Vince Fumo had a gun range built in the basement of his Spring Garden mansion.

Our own Susan Phillips has discovered that the disgraced and imprisoned former state senator now wants to sell some or all of his firearm collection. Fumo’s lawyers have asked a federal judge to give a Dr. Edward Weitzman access to Fumo’s hardware so he can clean and try to sell them. Prosecutors didn’t object.

On an extremely un-related note, a Southwest Philadelphia community group plans a “Gun Buy Back” this Saturday at the Kingsessing Recreation Center. The idea is to remove some guns from the streets of Southwest Philly.

Fumo never had much interest in that. He was a lifelong NRA member who in the mid-90’s helped kill Philadelphia’s assault weapons ban. We doubt Dr. Weitzman will be taking any of Fumo’s weapons to the Gun Buy Back.
