Friends, colleagues remember New Castle County Police Officer Joseph Szczerba

Friends and colleagues of Delaware police officer Joseph Szczerba say they remember him as a leader.

On the website “Officer Down,” colleagues wrote in, sharing their thoughts and memories of Szczerba.

“Joe lead from the front, was always in the trenches with his team and never left until the job was done,” Chief Rick Gregory said.  Gregory, who is now the chief of the department in Provo, Utah, used to work with Szczerba.

Many others in the New Castle community found ways to honor Szczerba.  NewsWorks.org’s John Mussoni reports Salesianum High School held an impromptu memorial service Friday at the end of the school day.  Szczerba gradated from the school in 1985.
