Free trees available to more Northeast residents

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society has expanded its Tree in Every Yard program this fall to include more of the Northeast.

Previously only available in the 19114 and 19115 ZIP codes, now residents in nine Northeast ZIP codes are encouraged to pick up a free yard tree to help the three-state Plant One Million campaign reach its goal of planting one million trees in 13 counties around Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

Below, see video explaining the Tree in Every Yard program, with tips from PHS’s Liz Haegle.

The free trees are 6 to 8 feet tall and 35 to 40 pounds. Residents of the 19111, 19114, 19115, 19116, 19135, 19136, 19149, 19152 and 19154 ZIP codes can register by Oct. 4 to be part of the program that aims to make blocks look nicer and lower energy bill.

There’s a prize in it for the block with the most trees. Details for the time, date and location of your tree pick-up will be emailed to you when you complete the registration process.
