Bygone days: Mayor Rizzo wants to fight TV anchor

If you’re old enough to remember Mayor Frank Rizzo, the video above will make you either nostalgic or nauseated. If you’re too young, you owe it to yourself to watch it to the end to get a sense of the man who was truly one of a kind.

This is a report of Channel 3’s I-Team investigation into the cost of police protection assigned to Rizzo’s home in Chestnut Hill after he’d left office in 1980.

It features hizzoner in fine form, and a couple of other recognizable faces. One is his son Frank Rizzo Jr., known at the time as Franny, who appears briefly early on. The other is Channel 3 anchor Stan Bohrman, who you can see in the classic Jane Fonda/Jack Lemmon/Michael Douglas film “The China Syndrome.”

I’m away in the Portland, Oregon, area for about 10 days.  Enjoy.
