Franchises giving away the goods for National Donut Day

Update: The DD at 7th and Market streets got slammed this morning. By 10:30, only a couple lonely looking cruellers were left. What’s the situation at your local outpost?

Original report: Friday means one thing: free doughnuts. At least, this Friday means that, because it’s National Donut Day.

Krispy Kreme and Dunkin’ Donuts are both participating, but with different offers and rules.

Krispy Kreme is keeping it simple: Go to its Center City or Fox Chase location, wait in line, get a doughnut. The franchise has also teamed up with the Salvation Army in honor of Donut Day, so you can go to the KK website and print a voucher that donates $2 to the organization when you buy one dozen doughnuts.

Dunkin’ Donuts will give you a doughnut when you buy a beverage — no cooler beverages, though (like the sodas and water sold out of the fridge). For best results, make sure your nearby DD is participating and RSVP on Facebook.

Editor’s note: This post has been updated to clarify which DD beverages make you eligible for a free doughnut.
