Four local schools win Green Ribbon Award

The U.S. Department of Education announced Green Ribbon Awards for 78 schools today.

Four are in Pennsylvania, four in New Jersey, and two from each in the Delaware Valley.
Midtown Community Elementary School in Neptune, N.J.; Adler Avenue Middle School in Egg Harbor Township, N.J.; Radnor Middle School in Wayne, Pa.; and Springside Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia have been recognized for “programs that save energy, reduce costs, feature environmentally sustainable learning spaces, protect health, foster wellness, and offer environmental education to boost academic achievement and community engagement.”

State departments of education nominated about 100 schools for the award after receiving a combined 350 applications from around the country, according to a news release from the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Twenty-nine states and Washington, D.C. have schools on the list.
