Four injured in serious crash on Route 72 in Stafford this morning

    Four were injured in a serious motor vehicle crash on Route 72 in Stafford late this morning.

    Shortly before 10:30 a.m., Nick Rizzi, 83, of Manahawkin was operating a 2008 Ford Edge on Route 72 eastbound when Cecilio Torres, 52, of Barnegat exited Barnacle Drive onto the highway in a 2003 Ford Windstar and collided with Rizzi’s vehicle, the Stafford Police Department said in a release.

    Torres was airlifted to the Trauma Unit at AtlantiCare Regional Medical in Atlantic City for treatment, police said.

    Torres’ passenger, Ciriaco Morales, was transferred to Southern Ocean Medical Center in Manahawkin after being extricated by the Stafford Fire Department, according to police.

    Rizzi and his passenger, Manual Matus, 86, of Manahawkin were both airlifted to the Trauma Unit at AtlantiCare Regional Medical for treatment, police said. 

    All individuals are in stable condition, according to police. 

    Police reduced traffic to one lane during the investigation. Charges, which have not been filed at this time, are expected, police said.
