Former 100-yard dash record-holder Frank Budd dies
Olympic sprinter and former 100-yard dash world record-holder Frank Budd has died at 74.
Villanova University says Budd, an alumnus, died Tuesday. A cause of death has not been given.
Budd placed fifth in the 100 meters at the 1960 Olympics. A year later, he set the world record in the 100-yard dash, finishing a race at Randall’s Island in New York in 9.2 seconds.
That earned Budd the unofficial title of world’s fastest man.
He later played wide receiver in both the National Football League and Canadian Football League.
Budd grew up in Asbury Park and later lived in Mount Laurel.
Services are scheduled for Monday on the Villanova campus outside Philadelphia.
