Forget the cheesesteak, here’s to the hoagie

The City of Philadelphia wants to remind you that the hoagie is its quintessential cold sandwich.

During next week’s National Sandwich Day on Thursday, you’ll have constant reminders that the hoagie is Philly’s sandwich.

The Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC) this week unveiled several weeks of special events, promotions and contests to honor the iconic sandwich.

“Recently national media have been rediscovering a favorite treat of Philadelphians, and that’s the hoagie. These over-stuffed sandwiches are made all over town by entrepreneurs committed to using fresh ingredients and locally made bread,” Meryl Levitz, president & CEO of GPTMC said.

The GPTMC is partnering with several others to honor the sandwich and has even published a special section of visitphilly.com that offers hoagie fans a wide range of information on the sandwich and where to find it.
