For safety in big cities, New Jersyans prefer Manhattan to Philadelphia

When it comes to safety in big cities, New Jersyans voted hands down in a Farleigh Dickinson University poll: Manhattan is best.

Seventy-eight percent of those polled feel very safe or somewhat safe in the metropolis to the north, while just 59 percent said the same of Philadelphia. But we did fare better than Trenton and Newark; 43 percent of people feel very or somewhat safe in Trenton and 55 percent don’t feel safe in Newark.

Atlantic City, though, came out suprisingly well. Despite the poll being conducted shortly after a second fata casino carjacking, 75 percent of people who’ve been there in the last year feel somewhat or very safe, and 53 percent of those who haven’t visited recently say the same.

The university polled 800 people Oct 17 through Oct. 23 with  +/- 3.5 percent margin of error.
