First sign of Race Street Connector project to debut soon

It’ll be awhile before the Race Street Connector project is finished, but the first literal sign of progress will be up soon.

A light screen will soon appear on Race between Second Street and the waterfront beneath I-95 to serve as an example of what strollers can expect as they make their way between Old City and the Delaware River.

PlanPhilly has video from the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation’s executive board meeting, where a mock-up of the light screen was revealed. Once Phase I of the project — focused on the south side of Race Street is complete, Phase II will begin on the north side. With that will come a pedestrian and bike path.

The DRWC is also looking into how to connect drivers to Old City and the waterfront, since most of the current plans focus on slower modes of transportation.
