Legislation has been introduced paving the way for a second casino in Philadelphia.

Councilman Kenyatta Johnson introduced the first of several bills for the casino near where the Eagles and Phillies play in South Philly.

He says he’s ready for the project to begin construction as soon as possible.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for jobs, for not only the second councilmatic district but also for the city of Philadelphia,” he said. “Tax base for more revenue that will go toward our schools.  So for me as soon as possible but first we have to do our due diligence regarding making sure we have a good project for the second councilmatic district.”

Johnson says he’s aware of neighbors who oppose to the project and those worried whether the developer has a bad track record about hiring minorities and the public zoning hearings are a chance for opponents to be heard.
