Fire breaks out at old Camden tire factory
Update: Firefighters were still on the scene early this morning in what became a 12-alarm fire at the abandoned tire factory. The Associated Press reporters at least three firefighters were hospitalized for heat exhaustion. No nearby residents were injured, but as least 20 were displaced.
Original report: At the peak of this scorcher of a day, an eight-alarm fire broke out in an abandoned tire factory in Camden, N.J.
Smoke and flame could be seen from miles away. Channel 6 Action News reported that crews were called at about 4:00 p.m. to the Reliable Tire Factory, located at Chestnut and Orchard streets.
The Camden Mayor’s office says three nearby residential properties have been evacuated, but there are no reports of injuries at present.
