FedEx truck driver charged with aggravated assault in alleged road rage incident

A former FedEx truck driver is facing prosecution for his participation in an alleged road rage incident last month in Lakewood.

Sigmund Winiavski, 48, of Maple Shade has been charged with aggravated assault for attempting to force a school bus operated by Morris Wilder, 68, of Lakewood off the road, according to a Lakewood Police Department release.

In the video above, a motorist captured the incident between the two drivers while on Airport Road in the township. Police say Wilder illegally attempted to pass Winiavski.

“Although no contact or physical injuries occurred, Mr. Winiavski’s actions constitutes simple assault,” Det. Lt. Gregory Staffordsmith said in the release. “However, because Mr. Wilder was clearly identifiable as being engaged in the performance of his duties as a school bus driver, New Jersey law dictates that the action rises to the level of an aggravated assault.”

Winiavski was released on his own recognizance pending a court appearance, Staffordsmith said, adding that both men received numerous motor vehicle summonses for their respective parts in the incident.

Both men were reportedly fired by their employers after the video surfaced.
