Federal grant program supports housing preservation in central and southern Delaware

Low-income Delawareans in Kent and Sussex Counties may qualify for newly-available housing preservation grant funds.

The US Department of Agriculture is awarding a $50,000 Rural Development grant to be administered by Kent County Levy Court and Sussex County Council.  Funds will then be directed toward homeowners and owners of multi-family rental properties or cooperative dwellings who rent to low-income residents.  The grants will be used for general repairs, installation or improvement of plumbing, energy-efficiency measures or to make improvements to accommodate people with disabilities.  Senators Tom Carper and Chris Coons and Congressman John Carney announced the USDA grants this week.
