Family lays to rest murdered Montgomery County girl

A week after her murder and four weeks after her first encounter with her killer, 9-year-old Skyler Kauffman is being laid to rest. Funeral services are being held this morning for Kauffman, who was assaulted and killed last week near her Souderton apartment.

Her neighbor, 24-year-old James Troutman, is charged in her death. On April 18, police were called to the apartment complex where Kauffman and Troutman resided after Kauffman and a friend said Troutman attempted to lock them in his apartment after the girls went in to use his bathroom.

Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Hoeffel has asked police to release more information on their initial investigation into Troutman, as Hoeffel wonders if Kauffman’s death could have been prevented.
