    Congressman Bob Brady’s idea was to have a pool of money to preserve events such as the Mummers parade, which was in trouble because of finances – and the Columbus Day Parade, which did not happen this year.

    Brady: I always say you lose your traditions, you lose your identity and I don’t want to lose the identity of the city of Philadelphia. Whether it be the Dad Vail Regatta St Patty’s day parade and the Columbus Day Parade. If I had known about that it would have made that happen, but I didn’t know about it.

    Congressman Brady says PECO and Comcast are among the businesses to offer funding to preserve the city’s traditions. He won’t say how much has been collected, or how much he wants to collect.
