Ethics Commission: Pa. Welfare Secretary’s side business presents no conflict of interest

Pennsylvania’s Ethics Commission has determined that Welfare Secretary Gary Alexander’s side business does not present a conflict of interest with his state duties.

Alexander operates Smart Alex Consulting LLC, an investment consulting firm in Rhode Island. The Patriot-News reports the commission has finally responded to the letter Alexander sent last year seeking an opinion on whether his two positions present an problem.
They don’t, the commission determined. Y’know what does? Writing for a conservative publication that rejects programs supported by the Department of Public Welfare while working for the DPW. Alexander’s special assistant announced his resignation ealier this month for that very reason.
