Estate recovery

Pennsylvania’s Department of Military and Veteran Affairs is taking heat from families of vets over its estate recovery program.

The program, which brings about $3 million annually from vets who die in the commonwealth’s six state-owned nursing homes, isn’t something most families are aware of, the Associated Press reports.

The agency has defended its recovery practices, but has offered to provide better communication to vets’ families about the recovery process.
