There’s no need for alarm if you hear a loud blast emanating this evening from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

According to a military release, the base’s Explosive Ordnance Team will conduct an emergency detonation around 6:30 p.m.

The team recovered a 45 pound UXO (unexploded ordnance) off base today, according to the release

“The detonation may be louder than our normal training booms, so don’t be alarmed!” the release said.

The detonation time is tentative and could change. The base hasn’t yet provided information about where the UXO was found.

In September, the base’s Explosive Ordnance Team detonated an UXO found at a Newark scrap metal yard.
