Ed and Midge Rendell announce “amicable” split after 40 years

Former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell and wife Marjorie “Midge” Rendell have announced they’re separating after 40 years of marriage. The pair made the announcement together in an email to friends.

Philly Clout has the full email, which includes a line to friends that it’s OK to continute to invite the pair to the same events.

Sounds like this decision is the result of some serious planning.

The former mayor and governor and soon-to-be lawyer and MSNBC commentator among other things, endured much speculation while in office about his relationships with other women (most recently state employee Kirsten Snow), despite denials from Rendell, who is 67. His wife,  a Third Circuit judge, also has said her husband didn’t stray.

“We wanted to let you know that we have decided to embark upon this next phase of our lives by living separately,” the email states.

Leave it to government employees to strategize their divorce announcement.
