East Falls
Attend the unveiling of the new “East Falls Tapestry” public art display under the Twin Bridges, located on Ridge Avenue. The work was inspired by Japanese kimonos and native creatures from the Schuylkill River.
The dedication will be held on Tuesday Aug. 7 at 6 p.m. and is open to the public.
The display evokes the textile manufacturing that was common in East Falls during the Industrial Revolution, with Dobson Mills (now modern apartments) as a primary manufacturer. The artists of the Tapestry are Mike Smash and Johnny Buss.
Murals Arts Director Jane Golden and Philadelphia City Councilman Curtis Jones will attend. PennDOT, which helped fund the art, and Philadelphia University, which holds the kimono, will be represented as well.
Refreshments will be served by the Trolley Car Cafe.
