Eagles green

The meaning of Bleed Eagle Green will be two-fold soon, as the Linc is set to undergo major greening renovations.

The stadium will be the first in the world to rely on self-generate renewable energy, as stated in a press release sent to NewsWorks a short while ago.

Onsite wind, solar panels and dual-fuel generated electricity will power the stadium come the projected September 2011 completion date. Some numbers to consider:

80 20-foot wind turbines will be installed
2,500 solar panels will come in
a 7.6 megawat dual-fuel cogeneration plant will be on site

The team estimates a savings of $60 million in energy costs. No word on what the project will cost to complete.
