Downingtown ordiance would further regulate well drilling and expansion

An ordinance likely to pass Downingtown Borough Council would limit the construction and expansion of wells.

Under the measure proposed by the Downingtown Municipal Water Authority, residents would have to seek written approval from the authority to drill or expand wells.

The West Chester Daily Local reports the ordinance stems from cross-contamination concerns for drinking water, and would provide a way for the authority to limit competition for its services.

Council will move to adopt the ordinance once the authority provides the forms residents would have to fill out to request well drilling or expansion.
