DNREC needs wildlife volunteers

DNREC needs volunteers to help with two wildlife projects taking place the 2nd and 3rd weekends in January.

On Saturday January 8th crews are needed in the Nanticoke Wildlife area near Bethel.  The hope is the volunteers can restore an ancient sand ridge forest.   Over January 16th and 17th they’ll be working to remove the Japanese wisteria plant.in Cedar Swamp near Townsend.

“These are ongoing projects, and volunteers have been working hard to restore these important areas,” said Lynne Staub, volunteer services coordinator with the Division of Fish and Wildlife. “For these work dates, we’re hoping to involve more volunteers to complete the removal of wisteria at the Cedar Swamp site and continue to improve habitat at the Nanticoke site.”

DNREC asks volunteers be over 13 and register in advance. Also check the weather forecast before heading out in case the project is postponed.  For more information or to sign up for these projects, please contact Lynne Staub at 302-735-3600 or email lynne.staub@state.de.us.
