Diwali, mermaids and basket weaving: 5 family activities for the weekend

    Here’s a look at what’s going on this weekend for families in Philadelphia. 

    Saturday and Sunday: Diwali Weekend at the Please Touch Museum

    Brighten up your weekend with music, dancing, and arts and crafts at the Please Touch Museum to celebrate the Hindu Festival of Lights and new year. Festivities will continue through the weekend. Free with regular admission. Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    Celebrate Native American Heritage Month at the Penn Museum with a tour of the Native American Voices exhibition. Weave your own basket from 1 to 4 p.m. Free with museum admission.

    Sunday: Refreshment Saloon at the Mutter Museum

    Have a taste of history at the Mutter Museum’s Refreshment Saloon. Authentic Civil War foods will be served throughout the day as you visit with surgeons, soldiers, and civilians of the era. Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free with museum admission.

    Sunday: Family Fun at the Art Museum

    Take a family friendly Modern Marvels Tour at 11 a.m. followed by Family Art Cart activities from noon to 3 p.m. Free with admission.

    Friday, Saturday and Sunday: Weeki Wachee Mermaids

    They’re back! It’s a whole new world at Adventure Aquarium this weekend with the magical Weeki Wachee Mermaids! Explore everything mermaid for free with regular admission. Open Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
