Design committee to review projects in South Philly, Old City, Kensington
Philadelphia’s Civic Design Review Committee will consider three residential projects at its monthly meeting on Tuesday.
Developers of a proposed apartment complex at 401 Race Street will present for the second time. At their last meeting in July, committee members panned the project, saying it doesn’t respect the importance of its Old City surroundings. New renderings show the property in context, though its overall design doesn’t seem to have changed much.
The Committee will also review designs for the project that would replace the vacant Mt. Sinai hospital in South Philadelphia. Concordia Group, which is buying up a number of former school buildings, plans 95 townhomes at the site. The proposal has gotten mixed but mostly positive reactions from the neighbors.
And the Committee will review a proposal for 320 apartment units in South Kensington, on a vacant lot at 2nd and Thompson streets. The proposal has been in the works for a number of years and has benefited from rezoning in City Council.
The meeting will be held on the 18th floor of the City of Philadelphia building, 1515 Arch St., at 1 p.m.
