Delaware’s unemployment rate unchanged

Delaware jobs rate still ahead of New Jersey and Pennsylvania

Delaware’s unemployment rate for August is the same as it was for July: 8.4%.  There are still 35,300 Delawareans out of work.  That still puts the state 1.1% below the national average of 9.6%.

New Castle and Kent Counties account for the highest unemployment in the state at 8.7% and 8.8% respectively.  Sussex County has a 7.6% unemployment rate.  The city of Wilmington leads the state with 12.5%.  That’s higher than the July rate, but down from a year ago.

The good news is that the number jobs over the last 12 months has grown.  The Delaware Department of Labor reports there has been an increase of 4,100 non-farm jobs in the last year.
