Delaware’s new Indian River Inlet Bridge set to open

In 10 days, the newly constructed Indian River Inlet Bridge will open to traffic, according to Delaware’s Department of Transportation (DelDOT).

DelDOT says the first step will be to reroute southbound Route 1 traffic from the existing Indian River Inlet Bridge on Friday, Jan. 20, over to the new one.

Shortly thereafter, transportation officials say Route 1 northbound traffic will follow. Once the shift is completed, the traffic pattern will consist of one lane in each direction on the southbound side of the new bridge for the remainder of the winter and into spring.

Meanwhile, contractors will complete the roadway approaches on the remaining two lanes on the northbound side of the bridge preparing for a spring 2012 opening.
