Delaware police investigate death of 55-year-old Hockessin woman

Police in Delaware are investigating the death of a 55-year-old Hockessin woman after a man claimed responsibility for her alleged murder early Wednesday morning.

New Castle County Police say at about 3:58 a.m. on Wednesday they responded to Withers Way in the Sanford Ridge community in Hockessin.  They say a family member called 911 after she discovered her deceased mother in the residence. 

About an hour later, a man called 911 and claimed responsibility for the woman’s death.  Police arrived at his location in the Autumnwood community and took him into custody.  

The man provided details about the incident that indicated his involvement, according to the police department, and no other suspects are being sought at this time.

The suspect is being held at New Castle County Police Department headquarters while the investigation takes place.
