Delaware County using curfews as one way to prevent crime

“A new 9 p.m. weekend curfew implemented in Center City and parts of University City and West Philadelphia led to 50 arrests Friday night — more than many Delco police departments make in a decade.”

That attention-getting line is buried somewhere in the middle of a lengthy Delco Times article about how the county’s municipalities use curfews. Philadelphia’s flashmobs and the city’s plan to stop them have draw national attention to the curfew issue, so the Delco Times checked in to see how some towns approach the issue.

Curfews — at least the temporary ones — tend to be earlier in places where crime is more prevalent, like 8 p.m. in Darby Borough and 9 p.m. in Chester. In places like Ridley and Lower Chichester, 10:30 or later seems to be the magic hour.
