Delaware abortion foes want investigation at Planned Parenthood

Following an attack on one of their supporters outside a Wilmington Planned Parenthood office, members of Delaware Right to Life are calling for an investigation from Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden.

The attack abortion opponent Rae Stabosz was captured on camera and posted on YouTube.  Stabosz was recording a patient being carried out on a stretcher and into an ambulance when a woman walks out of the Planned Parenthood building on Shipley Street and hits Stabosz and shoves her to the ground.

Stabosz says Wilmington Police are investigating the attack against her.  “After [the detective’s] report is complete, he’ll confer with the Attorney General’s office and they’ll decide whether to press charges.”

The attack brings to attention Delaware Right to Life’s accusation against Planned Parenthood that women have been rushed from the Wilmington facility to get medical care after what they suspect were botched abortions.  “In just over a month, four medical emergencies resulting from botched abortions have necessitated that women be transported to a local hospital for urgent care,” says Delaware Right to Life president Nicole Collins.

Collins says the group is also calling state lawmakers and the Department of Health to hold abortion clinics to the same standard of care that medical facilities are held to.  “Abortion clinics use medical instruments, they employ health care staff, and they call themselves health care facilities.  Why are they not expected to play by the same rules?”  They’re  also calling on the Delaware Board of Medical Licensure and Discipline to investigate the clinic.

The trial of abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell in Philadelphia is also drawing attention to the issue of oversight at abortion clinics.  Gosnell is accused of killing seven late-term babies who were delivered alive at his clinic, and third-degree murder charges for the overdose death of a female patient.  According to the Grand Jury report, Gosnell first met that patient in Wilmington.  He worked at least one day a week at Atlantic Women’s Medical Services in Wilmington until at least 2009.

WHYY has not yet received a response to the accusations from Planned Parenthood.
