Wilmington city council president won’t run again

Wilmington’s city council president, first elected in 1992 to the council before becoming its president in 2008, has decided not to seek re-election when his current term ends.

The News Journal reports that Norman D. Griffiths, who is a lawyer for DuPont, made the announcement yesterday.

The 59-year-old figures 20 years on the council would mark a good time to take a break, spend more time with his family and concentrate on his legal career.

Former City Councilman Theo Gregory has said he is running for council president.
