Deal police captain dies in Ocean Township crash

    A captain in the Deal Borough Police Department died in a single-vehicle crash early this morning in Ocean Township.

    Capt. Earl B. Alexander IV, 38, of Deal was off-duty traveling southbound on Route 71 in a 2007 Acura TSX when he crashed north of Perrine Avenue at approximately 12:33 a.m., Ocean Township Police Department Det. Lt. Timothy R. Torchia said in a release. 

    According to the release, a preliminary investigation indicates that Alexander lost control of the vehicle, which left the roadway, flipped on its side, and struck a utility pole.

    He died as a result of his injuries sustained in the crash.

    “Please keep his family, friends and members of this department in your thoughts and prayers. Funeral arrangements and services will be announced as soon as they become available,” a Deal police spokesperson posted on Facebook

    Ofc. Alisa Antunez of the of the Ocean Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau is investigating along with the Monmouth County Serious Collision Response Team.
