Curious and skeptical give bike sharing a try
Those trying to create the public bike system in Philadelphia are rolling out temporary trial-runs.
A bike sharing system is being demonstrated in Philadelphia this week. The concept of bike sharing has you swiping your credit or membership card and using bicycles for up to 30 minutes free. But is it truly as easy as proponents say?
Michelle Zucker works at the University of Pennsylvania. She was worried about the shared bikes being one-size fits all.
“I’m on the shorter side and in order for me to ride a bicycle it has to be low enough to the ground, but I think it’s a great idea I think people might come in one way with train or a car and use a bicycle locally to get around campus.”
A wave of a keycard was all it took to pull the bike out of its stand to give Zucker a chance to try it out. To her surprise it adjusted to fit her diminutive frame.
“I was doubting, I was doubting it could fit it but it was short enough.”
The concept would cost up to 19 million dollars to fully implement in Philadelphia and so far proponents are still searching for that money.
