Council Rock School District to receive more state funding than expected

Though it’s still receiving about $1.2 million less from the state than it did last year, the Council Rock School District will receive more money from the Commonwealth than it expected for the 20122-2012 budget.

The district will get $696,306 more in basic education funding, Newtown Patch reports, and an additional $156,159 through a state Accountability Block Grant.

Two elementary literacy specialists will be reinstated through the grant, and the rest of the money will go toward reducing the amount of fund balanced used.

Ninth-grade sports, however, remain cut from the budget. An intramural program will be considered.
