Corbett’s kayak trip leaves time for visit with tourism officials

Pa. Gov. Tom Cobrett is kayaking around parts of the state today, but he took a break this afternoon to meet with tourism officials in Tunkhannock (outside of Scranton), where tourism and the natural gas drilling industries have been clashing.

In its preliminary reports, the Associated Press mentioned Jean Gasper, director of the Endless Mountains Visitors Bureau. Gasper was set to speak to Corbett about her work, and how the gas drilling industry has affected it. The influx of workers has made area hotel rooms hard to come by, and well and pipeline construction has left gaps in the forests.
