Coons leads O’Donnell by 15 in latest poll

Fox News sponsored poll shows a big lead for Democrat Chris Coons.

Despite the white hot national media spotlight on Republican Christine O’Donnell over the last week, she’s not faring any better with Delaware voters in the latest poll of the state’s U.S. Senate Race.

The Pulse Opinion Research poll done for Fox News shows Democrat Chris Coons leading O’Donnell 54% to 39% with 5% of voters not sure.  The survey of one thousand likely Delaware voters was done on September 18 and has a margin of error of +/- 3%.

The overwhelming majority of voters (82%) were certain of their vote, while just 11% said they may change their mind.  Perhaps the most telling question posed to voters was whether they thought either candidate was qualified to be a U.S. Senator.  59% said  Coons was qualified, while only 33% thought O’Donnell was qualified.

The poll offers more evidence that Democrats should be happy with O’Donnell’s upset of Congressman Mike Castle in the primary.  When asked who they would have voted for if Castle won the primary, 48% said they would vote for Castle, while 33% would vote for Coons.

The complete poll is posted at FoxNews.com.
