Contact lens recall expanded due to oil residue

CooperVision has expanded its August recall of Avaira contact lenses after determining newer lenses aren’t meeting the standards set by the summer recall.

Avaira Sphere, distributed globally, could be affected by the oil residue that some users say have caused hazy vision, discomfort, pain and injury. Anyone wearing the lenses is advised to take them out immediately and go online or call 1-855-526-6737 to determine if their lot numbers are part of the recall.

A number of Avaira Toric were recalled in August due to the silicone oil, and the company says it’s confident the problem has been fixed.
