Coast Guard searches for swimmer off Atlantic City

A search is underway after a man reportedly went missing after swimming near Atlantic City’s Steel Pier Tuesday night.

A bystander told the Atlantic City Police Department that the man didn’t return after he entered the ocean around 10 p.m.

Police contacted the U.S. Coast Guard, which launched a 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew from Station Atlantic City and an MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Atlantic City to conduct initial searches.

The Coast Guard Cutter Mako, an 87-foot patrol boat based out of Cape May, also joined the search.

The search comes just days after a 24-year-old Slovakian woman vanished after swimming around 2 a.m. Sunday in Point Pleasant Beach. After an extensive search, she was recovered in Toms River late Sunday.
