Christie will skip fundraising dinner to focus on Irene

People paid $250 a ticket for tomorrow’s Republican Party fundraiser honoring Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, at which N.J. Gov. Chris Christie was set to speak.

Instead, Christie will stay home in the Garden State where Hurricane Irene damage assessments continue. The Associated Press reports Christie was in touch with Barbour before the storm moved up the coast, asking the outgoing Mississippi guv for advice.

Neither has plans to run for president in 2012, though Barbour did some early campaigning and Christie has been asked numerous times to run.
