Christie allies’ trial in bridge case pushed to September

The criminal trial for two former allies of Gov. Chris Christie in the George Washington Bridge lane-closing case has been pushed back to September.

This week a judge approved the postponement to give defense lawyers more time to review case documents.

The trial had been scheduled for mid-May.

Bill Baroni, a former state senator appointed to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey by Christie, and former Christie staffer Bridget Kelly face charges including wire fraud and civil rights violations.

They’re accused of orchestrating the lane closures in September 2013 to create gridlock in the town of Fort Lee, whose mayor wasn’t supporting Christie for re-election.

They’ve pleaded not guilty and have argued that even if they did what they’re accused of doing, no crimes were committed.
