CHOP executive charged with embezzlment following investigation

Former general counsel and executive vice president of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Roosevelt Hairston Jr., has been charged with various counts of embezzlement stemming from an investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Hairston was fired in February for “financial irregularities,” and the Philadelphia Business Journal has the details on what got the exec in trouble.

Between 1999 and February of this year, Hairston is alleged to have embezzled $1.7 million from CHOP by using false invoices from shell companies. He’s charged with fraud, money laundering, and filing a false tax return.

The money helped him live in luxury.
