Chefs’ sports loyalties at stake in cheesecake competition

The competition over who has the best cheesecake will result in the way pretty much every East Coast contest does: with the loser wearing the opponent’s sports team jersey.

Like Nutter and Corbett did this year in their Super Bowl and Stanley Cup bets with their counterparts in rival cities, Tom Heck, pastry chef at Davio’s in Rittenhouse, will don a Yankees jersey if taste-testers decide the cheesecake at ‘cesca in Manhattan is better. Arts & Culture reporter Peter Crimmins met with Heck yesterday to get a better sense of what makes the cakes.

You have until Saturday to stop by Davio’s, sample a slice of the ‘cesca cake and rate it. In the meantime, take our poll. So far, our readers say Manhattan has nothing on Philly when it comes to cheesecake. We’d expect nothing less.
