Cheers and tears at Philly LGBT Pride festival

The mood was celebratory in Philadelphia’s Gayborhood on Sunday morning as the LGBT Pride Parade and Festival gathered steam. The parade of businesses, bars, non-profits, social groups, athletic teams, churches and individuals who support Philly’s LGBT community worked its way through Center City to the festival space at Penn’s Landing.

A full year after same-sex marriage was legalized in Pennsylvania,  jubilant parade watchers lined up across Independence Mall to watch marchers, drag queens, dancers and other performers.

This the 2015 grand marshall was Pennsylvania Physician Gereral Dr. Rachel Levine. And the parade included a special moment to remember Gloria Casarez, the city’s first director of LGBT affairs, who died in October.
