Casinos’ handicap accessibility under review

New Jersey U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman has launched an investigation into Atlantic City hotels and casinos to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Preliminary steps began more than a month ago.

The properties in question received word 45 days ago that they’d need to return a detailed survey form by today. On-site inspections are likely to follow.

Fishman says the attorney’s office will work “cooperatively” with casinos that turn up violations, but the Department of Justice does have authorization to launch a civil suit in federal court should a pattern of discrimination present itself.
