Cardinal Rigali addresses Catholics on grand jury findings

Cardinal Justin Rigali of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia released a new video Saturday calling for Catholics to pray for the victims of sexual abuse. In his statement Cardinal Rigali said the findings of the grand jury report which charges three priests, a monsignor and a Catholic school teacher with sexual abuse against minors have caused great sadness and distress for everyone involved.”Once again the issue of the sexual abuse of minors is raised, as well as the role of the Church and her leaders in addressing this abuse.  As Catholics we are hurt and confused, and perhaps even quite angry and feeling betrayed,” said the Cardinal. In a letter written on Thursday Cardinal Rigali assured parishioners that, “no priests in ministry today who have an admitted or established allegation of sexual abuse of a minor against them.”But a victims support group says the grand jury report shows that there is evidence of abuse from some priests who have been allowed to keep their assignments.   For a video of Cardinal Rigali’s full commentary click here.
