Car crash causes minor gas leak in West Oak Lane

A two-car collision at the intersection of Washington Lane and Stenton Avenue caused a minor gas leak around 5:30 a.m. Thursday.

PGW Spokesman Barry O’Sullivan said one of the motorists had driven into a gas gauge post.

The hollow pipe, which monitors the system infrastructure in a location with a small amount of gas, is not used to distribute gas, he said. When it was damaged, however, some of the gas escaped.

No fires, evacuations, injuries or disruption of service were reported, he said.

He deemed the situation a “rare occurrence” because gas-gauge posts are typically set back from the road.

Crews were immediately dispatched to the scene to make repairs. O’Sullivan said it would be fixed by day’s end.

A police spokesperson said the drivers suffered minor injuries.
